Razi University History

Razi University opened, with the name of kermanshah Faculty of, science in 1972 and then it was expanded to a university with the name of razi in 1974. At the beginning of the academic year 1972-1973, 200 students were admitted by the Faculty to study physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. At present after 30 years, over 8902 students are studing in five faculties and two school. Razi university now offers doctorate program, 36 graduate program, 62 undergraduate programs 5 more undergraduate programs in evening time, there are 261 full-time members of academic staffs who serve the university.

Geographical and Historical Features of Kermanshah

The Kermanshah Province, extending to 24.5 square kilometers, is situated in the west of Iran. It is surrounded by Kurdistan, Luristan, hamedan Provinces and it has common borders with Iraq in the west .
Surveying historical evidence, it can be seen that many historical precedents have been set in Kermanshah, as for example, shown by Tagh-e-Bostan monuments, carved into the rocks in the time of the sasani Dynasty. This Proves that there exited an ancient civilization enjoing a very rich culture reflecting the original Iranian arts.
Kermanshah, whit moderate climate, very beautiful nature, and many ancient monuments, offers plentiful attractions for persons of any nationality, culture and tastes.

Building and Grounds

All the areas used up to April 2004 for academic and related purposes cover about 610 hectars, which are situated in five parts of the city. There are the Tagh-e-Bostan campus, the fruit Orchard, Faculty of Literature and Humanities, University central Administration Building and School of Veterinary Medicine.
At the present time, the faculties of science, engineering physical education and the University High school stand on the Tagh-e-Bostan Campus. The faculty of Agriculture, Clinic of Natural History are situated in a 500 hectare ground named the Fruit Orchard. The chancellor's and vice chancellor 's office: i.e., for student and cultural affairs, financial administration, research affairs, academic affairs and building and grounds are situated in the central administration building and oversee the executive and administrative affaires of the university. The faculty of Literature and Humanities includes it 's own relevant department, and the central library, sports pavilions, are housed there as well.

The welfare facilities

Razi University provides the following facilities to its academic staff and students.

• Dormitories

Razi university, for the time being, has seven dormitories which houses 3700 students. Fajr building in center of the city and the staff's complex apartments in Tagh-e-Bostan campus are allocated for the Staff's residence.

• self-service cafeterias

The three university self service cafeterias offer breakfast, lunch and dinner to students and staff.

• The Central Library

The central library named after Ostad Shahid Motahhari,includes a three-story building containing 55,000 books and electronic journals.

New Building Plans

The main purpose of Tagh-e-Bostan plan is to develop the university to be capable for the admission of 10000 students to study in three fields in technology and engineering, basic science and humanities, in coming years. In addition to the completed plans, the following different units of buildings are under construction:
1- The central Library, on two floors, in 6000 suemeters, is in its final phase of construction.
2- The university Mosque, on two floors, in 1850 square meters, is in its final phase of     Construction.
3- Sports Pavilions, in 2400 square meters.
4- Self service, Restaurant and Snaclcshop.
5- The faculty of Litrature and Humanities.

Quasr-e-shirin educational complex

Bearing in mind that there are extensive rangelands and forests in the province of Kermanshah, and also the need for specialized and native experts, the first steps have been taken to start this education institute, which shall be a basis for establishing the faculty of natural resources.
This institute has five building covering 7000 suaremeters, which will contain administration offices, a self service cafeteria , classrooms, laboratories, a library, a student dormitory, a complex building for the academic staff and a amphitheater, occupying eight hectares.
At present this Institute admits undergraduate students in the fields of technology of forestry, Rong land and watershed management. Ghasr-e-shirin educational has 124 students.

The University Boarding High School

To provide a ground for developing the potentials of the area, especially for the deprived classes, the university boarding high school was established in september 1991 and 100 students were admitted.
These students are allowed to make use of the computer center, laboraries, advanced equipment, dormitories, transportation service, and room and board free of charge.
The academic and official members of this school are a combination of the university staff and invited, experienced high school teachers of education department.
This high school reached a very favorable standard scientifically, educationally and culturally from the very beginning. the very top student of the province were graduated from this school for three years successively.
There are now 498 students styding at three diffrent levels. And pre-university center is being built this year to provide scientific and cultural services to 550 students.
